 Defensa de Casey Anthony afirma que su hija se ahogó

  1. El abogado defensor de una mujer del estado de Florida acusada por la muerte de su hija de dos años dijo hoy que la menor falleció al ahogarse en la piscina de la residencia familiar.

  2. José Báez, abogado de Casey Anthony, expuso el sorpresivo argumento en la presentación de los alegatos iniciales en el juicio contra la mujer que comenzó en un tribunal de Orlando, en el centro del estado de Florida.

  3. "Aquí no hay crimen, aquí no hay homicidio involuntario", dijo Báez. "Lo que aquí hay es un trágico accidente", aseguró, añadiendo que la menor murió accidentalmente en la piscina.

  4. Anthony, de 25 años, está acusada de homicidio en primer grado y de abuso infantil con agravante por la muerte de su hija Caylee Marie Anthony, cuya osamenta fue encontrada en 2008 en una zona boscosa a pocos metros de la casa de la acusada, tras seis meses de búsqueda.

  5. El abogado detalló que el 16 de junio de 2008, Caylee murió y Casey procedió, según él, como lo ha hecho toda su vida: "ocultar su dolor, ir a ese lugar oscuro llamado negación y pretendió que no había pasado nada".

  6. De acuerdo con la defensa, Anthony aprendió a mentir en el seno de una familia "disfuncional y con secretos", entre ellos que el padre de la acusada presuntamente fue al cuarto de ella cuando ésta tenía ocho años y "comenzó a tocarla de manera inadecuada".

  7. Los fiscales afirmaron que la niña murió a consecuencia de una cinta adhesiva comercial que su madre habría colocado en su nariz y boca, para luego disponer del cadáver como si "se tratase de basura".

  8. La cinta adhesiva fue calificada por los fiscales como el "arma" del "homicidio". "Casey Anthony trata de aparentar ser una madre cuidadosa y amorosa, pero la evidencia que presentaremos aquí mostrará lo contrario", aseguraron los fiscales.

  9. Casi tres años después de la acusación, inició el juicio contra Anthony, un caso que ha generado interés internacional y una amplia cobertura en los medios estadounidenses. La fiscal Linda Drane Burdick mostró una fotografía de la hija de la acusada en la que está sonriente, imagen que causó llanto a Anthony.

  10. Drane Burdick hizo también un recuento cronológico de la vida de juergas y amigos que supuestamente la joven madre llevaba mientras su hija estaba desaparecida o en el "peor de los casos, muerta, en el maletero del vehículo de su madre".

  11. Precisó que el recuento estaba basado en los récord de llamadas telefónicas hechas desde el teléfono celular de la acusada, quien habría quedado atrapada en una "telaraña de mentiras" que tejió para presuntamente encubrir el asesinato y que al final "fueron las que mostraron su culpabilidad".

  12. La fiscal mencionó el olor a cadáver que supuestamente emanaba del automóvil de Anthony, una prueba que la defensa trató en vano de excluir del proceso arguyendo que los análisis forenses realizados se basaron en experimentos nunca antes utilizados en un tribunal de EE.UU..
